The Castle of the Counts is the only medieval fortress left in Flanders! Be fascinated by its architecture and feel like a knight on top of the master tower! Our guide will tell you all about its past, which at some point served as a prison, barracks, court of justice and even as a textile factory. Inside the master tower you will find impressive halls. The former banqueting hall is now the Museum of Weapons. A unique collection of crossbows, swords, armour, daggers … In a former cellar underneath the count's private living quarters you can discover all kinds of torture devices.

  • Open every day from 10 AM till 6 PM.
  • The entrance fee is not included in this price. Tickets can be bought on arrival or on-line: https://historischehuizen.stad.gent/en/castle-counts
  • The visit must be requested by the Gentse Gidsen at least 10 days in advance.
  • The Castle of the Counts is not accessible for people with reduced mobility except for the bailey.
