The Bijloke: center of creativity and inspiration

From city hospital to cultural haven at the Leie

What used to be a medieval monastery and hospital has become a popular international cultural and museum complex only a stone’s throw away from the center of Ghent. Welcome to the site of De Bijloke!

More about this tour

Music, art and creativity: that is what De Bijloke stands for today. But did you know that this site used to be a medical center for more than 750 years? Our guide will tell you the exciting stories which the impressive premises hold.

Get a taste of the atmosphere at the time in the restored 13th century hospital wing which now houses a grand concert hall, roam the green courts and gardens and step forward in the digital era of the city museum, housed in an old abbey. See with your own eyes how contemporary design flawlessly melts into the historical grandeur.
