From hospital to contemporary museum
What did day-to-day life look like in the twentieth century? There is no better place to go back in time than in the Museum House of Alijn, in a uniquely preserved former God’s house.
More about this tour
It looks a distant past, but the twentieth century is not that far behind our time. The House of Alijn unveils habits, traditions and rituals that remind us of former times: the very first baby photos, playing marbles in the schoolyard, the first pangs of love, and the loss of a dear one. The location adds a special atmosphere: this was once the ‘Children of Alijn’s Hospital', a charity in which old people, the poor and ill ones found refuge. Our guide will take you through a rich collection of objects, photos, sounds and moving images and will show you that ‘everyday’ can be very special as well.
